About this deal

Inspired by The Dinosaur That Pooped Easter, follow our step-by-step instructions to create your own colourful Easter egg cup holder. Write a news report about the naughty things the children did while their parents were away. Chapter 9 describes lots of these. I really enjoyed reading this book because it has a great overall message in the story. ‘Its okay to be different’ This really comes across in the book and I like the added touch at the end (The author, Tom Fletcher, wrote a song to go with the book called Different and there are the lyrics and a QR code to hear him sing it). Do you ever hear strange, creaking noises at night? Ever wonder what makes those noises? Lucy Dungston always did.

We begin and the story was up and running. We are introduced to Lucy and learn about her family circumstances. Just her and her Mom since her Dad left. Lucy wakes up one morning and her Mom is gone; and not just her Mom but all the adults. Write some dialogue between two Creakers. What might they say to each other? What unusual words and phrases do they use? Could you record a trailer for this book? Here are some examples that you could use for inspiration: Lucy is responsible and all of the children look to her for support when the grown-ups disappear. What does it mean to be responsible? What are you responsible for? How do our responsibilities change as we get older? Norman was a pretty OK character, yes, I found him slightly annoying with his constant scout stuff, but I still liked how he was, along with Lucy, one of the kids who didn't go full crazy with all the freedom.Until, one morning, Lucy discovers that all the grown-ups have disappeared - as if into thin air. Chaos descends as the children in Lucy's town run riot. It's mayhem. It's madness. To most kids, it's amazing! This was an endearing story about making new friends, having faith in yourself, and doing what was right. Last Christmas, I read Tom Fletcher’s first novel, The Christmasaurus. I absolutely fell in love with it and I can’t wait until December comes around so I can read it again! I think I’ll make it a Christmas staple, like an advent calendar or The Polar Express. Anyway, I digress. The fact that I loved The Christmasaurus so much meant that I had such high expectations for The Creakers. I wasn’t left disappointed! Can you proofread the Creaker’s letter to the children? What mistakes did they make? Could you write a new letter from the Creakers?

At night, this mischievous bunch peeks out from under your bed. When you hear that creak . . . creak . . . THE CREAKERS are there! Discover a hilarious and eerie middle-grade story by a UK star. Before starting the story, talk about who or what ‘Creakers’ are. Where do they live? What do they look like? What do they do?
