Kreisler, Lauren. "Rod Stewart enjoys first Number 1 album in nearly 40 years!". Official Charts Company . Retrieved 19 May 2013. Nota a parte los encabezados de los capítulos, en dos renglones hace un resumen de lo que vamos a leer en ese capítulo pero en forma graciosa, no tienen desperdicio. Rod is known for being something of a philanderer and womanizer -- something he regretfully cops to in Rod. While I will agree with him that he behaved quite despicably to many of his girlfriends over the years, reading his book gave me more of an understanding of his actions -- he was quite simply in love with being in love! In May 2000, Stewart was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, for which he underwent surgery the same month. It had been previously reported he suffered from a benign vocal cord nodule. [150] Besides being a major health scare, the resulting surgery also threatened his voice, and he had to re-learn how to sing. [151] Since then he has been active in raising funds for The City of Hope Foundation charity to find cures for all forms of cancer, especially those affecting children. [150] In September 2019, Stewart revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017, and has been given the all-clear after treatment. [152]

By 2002, Stewart had sold over 100 million records during his career. [102] While growing up, he heard in his home classic songs written by songwriters such as Cole Porter, Gus Kahn and George and Ira Gershwin. Stewart joined others who had recorded the classic songs. [103] He concentrated on singing 1930s and 1940s pop standards from the Great American Songbook with great popular success. These albums have been released on Clive Davis's J Records label and have seen Stewart enjoy album sales equal to the 1970s. Stewart became attracted to beatnik attitudes and left-wing politics, living for a while in a beatnik houseboat at Shoreham-by-Sea. [36] He was an active supporter of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament at this time, joining the annual Aldermaston Marches from 1961 to 1963 and being arrested on three occasions when he took part in sit-ins at Trafalgar Square and Whitehall for the cause. [28] [36] He also used the marches as a way to meet and bed girls. [36] [38] In 1962, he had his first serious relationship, with London art student Suzannah Boffey (a friend of future model and actress Chrissie Shrimpton); he moved to a bed-sit in Muswell Hill to be near her. [39] She became pregnant, but neither Rod nor his family wanted him to enter marriage; the baby girl was given up for adoption and Rod and Suzannah's relationship ended. [83] This song was taken from a four-CD compilation set called Storyteller – The Complete Anthology: 1964–1990. Except for his interest in Pre-Raphaelite paintings (the world will lose 130 of those if Rod's mansion should burn down in an L.A. firestorm), he has got to be one of the most superficial, self-centered, cowardly people, with almost no interest in anything but himself, getting drunk and playing soccer, and screwing models.

I started this memoir immediately after finishing Pete Townshend's memoir and while reading I kept comparing it to Pete's book. I feel like I should write a term paper comparing and contrasting the two men. Both born in 1945 in England, went to the same clubs as teens, knew a lot of the same people, recorded at the same studios etc. However, the men are different as night and day. Pete is by far a better musician, a better songwriter and much cleverer than Rod. Also Pete is by far a bigger wanker. Rod is infinitely more pleasant to read than Pete. Rod is a hoot. Really funny. Loads of stories. I bet he is a lot of fun at a party. Pete Townshend takes himself soooo seriously that it was a relief to read a memoir where the person was able to poke fun at themselves.
