About this deal

Another sacrifice has been made for the S10e's lower price and it's the fingerprint reader - unlike the ultrasonic under-display modules of its more expensive brothers, this one has it in the power button on the side, just like the Galaxy A7 (2018).

The S10 5G’s only real downside is overall stamina. Despite the larger battery, the S10 5G didn’t do quite so well as the S10 Plus in our in-house battery rundown test, managing 20hrs and 40mins on a single charge. All things considered, that’s still a very good result, it’s just that the added Exynos 5100 modem clearly has a negative effect on overall battery life even when not in use. Samsung Galaxy S10 5G review: VerdictSo far, Vodafone has 11 5G smartphones on offer, with the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Fold, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G, Samsung Galaxy A90 5G and Huawei P40 Pro all available to buy now. The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is powerful enough to compete with today’s best gaming phones, and that means it has top-of-the-line specs inside. In the US, it has ships with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 855 chip, while in most other places around the world it features Samsung’s own Exynos 9820 chip. Start enabling some of the additional features on the Galaxy S10 Plus and the battery will of course take a hit, namely the always-on display and changing Full HD+ to QHD+.

Let's start by comparing it with the Galaxy S9+, which is about the same size as the S10+. Yes, the S10+ offers incremental improvements in the screen, battery life, modem, processor, and Wi-Fi performance. But I think you'll be just as happy with the S9+, because other than battery life, I wasn't able to find big differences in lived experiences, as opposed to lab testing.Samsung still claims "all-day battery life or a bit more", maybe because of the bigger screen here, or maybe just to play it safe. With moderate use – a couple of hours of Spotify streaming, a healthy amount of messaging and social media, an hour or two of Netflix and a smattering of gaming –we found it easy to end the night with an impressive 10% to 30% battery left. O2's 5G network is live in Aberdeen, Ashford, Banstead, Basildon, Belfast, Birmingham, Blaydon, Bradford, Bridge of Don, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Chatham, Chesterfield, Coventry, Dartford, Derby, Dewsbury, Dundee, Dyce, Eastbourne, Edinburgh, Esher, Gateshead, Gillingham, Glasgow, Grays, Hemel Hempstead, Huddersfield, Hull, Jarrow, Leeds, Leicester, Lincoln, Lisburn, Liverpool, London, Lowestoft, Luton, Manchester, Mansfield, Middlesbrough, Morley, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Newtownabbey, North Shields, Northampton, Norwich, Nottingham, Orpington, Oxford, Peterborough, Plymouth, Rainham, Redhill, Rotherham, Sheffield, Slough, Staines, South Shields, Stoke-on-Trent, Sunbury, Sunderland, Thundersley, Tynemouth, Warrington, Washington, Weybridge, Windsor, Worthing and York.

The main draw for us is the 93.1% screen-to-body ratio that fits more pixels across a tighter body. Samsung's new Infinity-O display avoids using a notch by opting for a laser-cut hole in the top-right corner for the front camera. Samsung comes very close to matching the iPhone XS score of 11,481 – outright speed has long been one advantage Apple has held over its chief rival. And storage makes the S10 Plus a wholly better value, starting at a healthy 128GB, of which around 110GB is actually available to you out of the box. If that’s not enough space, there’s a microSD slot which supports cards up to 1TB in size, or the 512GB and 1TB internal storage sizes – for an additional cost, of course. That said, battery life here is epic. On our standard battery test, which runs a YouTube video on maximum brightness, we got 10 hours, 58 minutes on the 4,100mAh cell, which even outpaced the 10 hours we saw on the Galaxy S9+. That only tells half the story, though. We had the opportunity to spend some brief moments in the company of the four Galaxies, and we'll be sharing some early impressions. There's a fingerprint scanner located just about the home button. (Image Credit: TechRadar) In-screen fingerprint sensorWe experienced some failures due it incorrect placement at first, and with no physical ridge to guide our finger we don't expect to eliminate failures completely. In time, we went from a first-time recognition success rate of 80% to a 95% success rate. Some of that was an update and some of it came down to getting used to the invisible sensor location. Predictably, the results are fantastic. Colour rendition is practically perfect and the cameras manage to strike the right balance of noise suppression and detail capture. Video is also top-notch with buttery-smooth 4K resolution capture at 60fps. While top speeds of over 1Gbps are quoted, in reality we've seen speeds more consistently around the 200-400Mbps threshold - still comfortably faster than average 4G speeds. If you want that latest screen, processor, Wi-Fi 6, and a nifty, better-located fingerprint scanner, meanwhile, there's the S10e. With a trade-in, the S10e is even cheaper than the S9 right now. In real-life use at MWC19 in Barcelona, it seemed like I never needed to recharge it. The Galaxy S10+ would regularly go two days and still have a decent charge. Can you chalk that up to the superior regenerative powers of Spanish mobile networks? Maybe. Samsung says it comes down to software: More intelligent management of what processes are running, combined with what DisplayMate says is a more power-efficient screen, makes for an ideal battery situation. The battery fast-charges with both wired and wireless connections, although to fast-charge wirelessly it needs an appropriate fast-charging wireless pad.

Shot Suggestions hints at how to fix photos using the phone’s neural processing unit (NPU). We found its real-time tips on leveling shots and framing subjects helpful, with an on-screen reticle to properly center group shots. Sure, its suggestions are at times way off, but for the most part it’s a helpful addition to the camera UI. The Galaxy S10+ is the first US phone with an under-display, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. It's more accurate than the OnePlus 6T's optical sensor. With a dry finger, if you hit the screen at the right spot, I found it to be 100 percent accurate in testing. But that's the thing —you have to hit the screen at the exact right spot. Hitting it off-center results in rejected touches. There's no visual guideline to do so when the screen is off, and no physical guide (like the ridge of a physical sensor) at all. The sensor is less accurate with a wet finger, and not usable at all with a dirty or goopy finger. For more on this, see my separate story on testing the fingerprint sensor. As far as I could tell, the 3D depth-sensing unit doesn’t seem to add much. Its implementations are few and far between at the moment – you can use the AR feature to help measure certain items in the real world, but that’s about it. Portrait pictures between both phones looked pretty much identical, too. Fingerprint (under display, ultrasonic), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, heart rate, SpO2 The default resolution is Full HD+, but you can crank it to QHD+ and it's pin sharp, with HDR10+ for superior contrast and color. That's an important perk if you’re a movie-watcher on your phone – an idea which isn’t so crazy its size.
